De Brandaris elementary school adopts monument
Each year, the Airmen’s Memorial is adopted by Year 7 (Group 7) of one of the primary schools in the municipality of Dronten. These students take on the responsibility of caring for the monument for one year. Last year, the students came from De Dukdalf primary school. They are now handing over that responsibility to Year 7 of De Brandaris in Dronten.

On Monday, April 7th, the students visited the Dronten Town Hall to speak with Mayor Jean Paul Gebben. They also attended a guest lecture by Tjerk Zwanenburg, who spoke about the recovery of aircraft from the Second World War. In addition, Gert Talens shared the story of Kitchen and Williamson, the crew members of the De Havilland Mosquito that crashed on November 27th, 1944.
Finally, the students cleaned the Airmen’s Memorial to ensure it looks well-kept for the remembrance ceremony on May 4th. During the ceremony, they will also be present and will lay a wreath on behalf of their school.
As the 4 May Remembrance Foundation Dronten, we are very grateful for the involvement of all students, teachers, and parents. All local primary schools have received an information leaflet and letter from our foundation, offering an overview of various possibilities for guest lessons and other activities.
