Recap Commemoration May 4 Dronten
On 4 May 2026, the Remembrance Day ceremony took place in Dronten. The large number of people gathered on the square, the invited guests, the wreath-layers, the music and singing, the speech, and the poem made a deep impression.

Commemorative Gathering at De Meerpaal
Prior to the remembrance ceremony on Meerpaalplein, a commemorative gathering took place in the main hall of De Meerpaal. The gathering was open to everyone.
Based on the National Committee for 4 and 5 May theme, “The History Told”, the program gave meaningful and varied expression to this theme in a dignified way. Contributions were made by Stefan van der Leeden, history teacher at Almere College Dronten, René de Graaf, veteran, Gert Talens, storyteller, and Anouk den Bakker, teacher at primary school De Flevosprong. They reflected on how history is still visible today and why this remains important.
The program also featured a dance performance by the De Meerpaal Dance School, musical contributions from Theatre School KARAKTER and the Soul Society Band. The gathering was hosted by Marleen Vos.

Ceremony on the Square
Afterwards, the ceremony took place on Meerpaalplein. Music was provided by Harmonie De Eendracht and Maris Sonores, with singing by the Flevo Men’s Choir. Two members of the Flevo Scouts carried the standard, accompanied by a guard of honour consisting of an active serviceman and a veteran from the municipality of Dronten. The other Flevo Scouts carried the 24 wreaths. There was a flypast by Tom van der Meulen in a Harvard aircraft, and the Edambusters also flew over with one aircraft. Mayor Gebben delivered an impressive speech. Quinty Evers, a student at Ichthus College, read aloud the winning poem from the poetry competition.
It was a dignified commemoration attended by many people.
