Recap commemoration May 4, 2024
On May 4, 2024, the 60th commemoration of the dead took place in Dronten. The large number of people on the square, the invited guests, the wreath-layers, the music and singing, the speech and the poem were impressive.
Prior to the commemoration on the Meerpaalplein, a memorial meeting was held in the large hall of De Meerpaal. A meeting open to everyone. Based on the annual theme of the National Committee for May 4 and 5, "Freedom Tells a Story," this theme was given a dignified interpretation in a varied manner. In addition to music by Renzo and Romar Boswijk, Saron Houben and Jorrick Simmens, the adoption school De Dukdalf, Almere College and Stewart's Melville College, among others, made a contribution and the dance school of De Meerpaal performed a dance to music about Universal Human Rights. Commissioner of the King Arjen Gerritsen addressed those present. Thomas Riezebos and Maarten van Evert made a video of veterans they had interviewed. Tineke Stuifzand took attendees through the program.
Afterwards, the ceremony took place on the Meerpaalplein. There was music by Harmonie De Eendracht and Maris Sonores and singing by Flevo's Men's Choir. Two members of the Flevo Scouts carried the Banner, accompanied by a guard of honor of an active duty military and veteran from the municipality of Ddronten. The remaining Flevo Scouts carried the 22 wreaths. There was a flypast by Tom van der Meulen in a Harvard. Because of the weather, the Edambusters could not fly over. There was an impressive speech by Mayor Gebben. Tyron Lotz, Ichthus College student, read Isa de Groot's winning poem.
It was a dignified commemoration attended by many people.
