Freedom Meals in the Municipality of Dronten
On 5 May, Liberation Day, activities take place across the country, ranging from small gatherings to large celebrations and, in recent years, Freedom Meals. The core of a Freedom Meal is a shared moment at the table, where participants talk about freedom and the absence of it. You meet new people, listen to each other’s stories and get to know one another better. It is an initiative of the Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei. In the municipality of Dronten, four Freedom Meals will take place on 5 May.

Biddinghuizen: Freedom Soup in Biddinghuizen
Dorpsbelangen Biddinghuizen, together with the Stichting 4 Mei Herdenking Dronten and the Stichting Sociaal Domein, will serve Freedom Soup at Stichting Sociaal Domein, Plein 26–28 in Biddinghuizen. A moment to talk together about freedom and remembrance. The soup will be served from 12.00 to 13.30. No registration is required.
Dronten: Freedom Soup at the Aviators Monument
Stichting 4 Mei Herdenking Dronten will serve Freedom Soup from 13.00 to 16.00 at the Aviators Monument on Meerpaalplein. A moment to view the wreaths and talk about freedom and remembrance in Dronten. No registration is required.
Dronten: Freedom Meal at Ontmoetingspark Buiten
On the initiative of Stichting Wende2001, a Freedom Meal will be organised at Ontmoetingspark Buiten, Dukdalf 2. In collaboration with the Fairtrade working group of Netwerk Duurzaamheid Dronten, up to 80 residents are invited to take part free of charge. The meal takes place from 11.00 to 13.00. To support sustainability and reduce waste, you are asked to bring your own bowl, plate, glass and cutlery. The Fairtrade Freedom Meal is part of the national Fairtrade Weeks, held from 4 to 16 May. Swifterbant: Freedom Soup in Swifterbant
The 4 May Committee of Swifterbant will serve Freedom Soup from 17.00 to 19.00 at Dorpsbelangen, Zuidsingel 38 in Swifterbant. Writer Mandy van Dijk will lead a conversation on the national theme “Understanding history” and the meaning of freedom for all of us. No registration is required. There are no costs.
